TRANSFORMATIVE EDUCATION (2022)

  • Transformative Education aims decisively to transform the world of education and to nurture the next generation to become problem-solvers and creative thinkers, empowered with the necessary skills to make this world a better place. It provides practical methods for sustainable, integrative, and active learning, and investigates ‘the why’ behind these proven and effective methods.

Discussing the different levels of subject integration in school, from intradisciplinary to transdisciplinary teaching, the authors analyse their potential holistic impact and knowledge retention effectiveness. With a substantial section on the efficacious teaching of the increasingly indispensable field of critical thinking, this book is built up first around a discourse of the intended methodology, secondly it includes a very practical mid-section with direct and meticulously described project ideas for teachers to try out, and finally a discussion and an analysis on what effects the proposed techniques might have and how teachers and students could be facilitated in their learning processes by school leaders and administrators.

This pioneering endeavour is an important text for education professionals globally, as well as for the policy makers that regulate their work. It may also be of interest to parents and to a wider society.

    Endorsements

“This timely and insightful book uses specific sites of transformation which uniquely demonstrate the development of an innovative integrative and holistic approach to active and sustainable learning … We have long awaited this sharper focus on the complexities with multiple assemblages of integrative sustainable active learning project ideas for teachers”.

Pamela Burnard, Professor of Arts, Creativities and Educations, University of Cambridge, UK

“This book is a highly ambitious endeavour. Graham and Longchamps are committed to address and solve the most critical questions of today's educational institutions in a single narrative … Their strength lies in combining the holistic, integrative approach with a pragmatic and straightforward style. Their voices are enthusiastic but not naive. They have an extraordinary, colorful and robust vision, but all that they share with their readers is based on their everyday teaching practice and experience”

Chris Brownell, Associate Professor, Mathematics and STEM Education, Program Director, Mathematics Education, Fresno Pacific University, USA

“International cooperation in education research should be emphasized as a challenge for future education … It is necessary for as many people as possible to put their heads together and learn from each other, regardless of their different backgrounds.”

Lew Hee Chan (류희찬), Professor at the Korean National University of Education, Seoul, South Korea

HOW TO FOSTER CREATIVITY IN 21st CENTURY EDUCATION (2021)

  • In 2021 we contributed a chapter entitled A Teacher Perspective on Facilitating Creativity for Leonards Sommers’ book How to Foster Creativity in 21st Century Education. This book is an unconventionally revolutionary and external take on educational needs, seen more from the perspective of the creative industries on possible requirements on future employees than, the more common, introspective considerations from inside the educational establishments. The compilation offers a quantity of various, very insightful and interesting viewpoints and our chapter provides a much needed teacher and school-leader angle on the issues.

BORDERLESS CONNECTIVITY - ICAS - (2020)

  • One of our first co-authored articles is to be found in the journal International Conference on the Advancement of STEAM 2020 (ICAS 2020)‎ Proceedings. The article introduces new ways of integrating the evolution of technology as an integral part of any History curriculum, using it as a means to literally sow seeds of creativity in the students’ minds. In this article, we attempt to demonstrate how the different concept acquisition skills needed to apply the theoretical aspects of history and other non-STEAM related school subjects are related to an understanding of the creative process that led to technological evolutionary patterns. We endeavoured to exhibit that, by using a holistic approach while using 4DFrame, it is possible to stimulate analytical and creative thinking, but most importantly, to develop a deeper understanding of historical and technological concepts and their relationships to one another, while creating a stimulating multidisciplinary teaching and learning environment.
